Why the birds sing?

It’s after a long gap that i am getting my mind to focus and put a series of “THE” posts that should be in the blog.

This post is going to be all about the reasoning “Why the birds sing” and my experience in learning this concept.

June 9th, After close to one and half months of waiting, i got to go to Hanko. This is a small beach town towards the south of Helsinki. So what go me to this sleepy little town was nothing more than my urge to know why birds sing. waited one and half months to go to a sleepy town ? - was i crazy ? certainly!!

So here it is, i was here in Hanko to take my tandem sky dive. Hell yes, a tandem sky dive, in a sleepy town by the ocean.

After weeks of postponing due to various reasons - bad weather or because most weekends i woke up late from a party hangover or just unavailable slots - i finally confirmed and booked June 9th, Saturday, 15:00 hours as the time for my own “free my mind” moment. The day of June 9th made no difference to my routine, i woke up late at 11:00 and went through my chores, checked the timing for the train and buses headed to Hanko, and found one at 13:00 hours. Rushed myself with getting stuffed with whatever there was in the kitchen left from previous night, called up Karthick and Saravanan and confirmed the timing with them and rushed to the railway station.

We meet up at the counter at 12:50 hours and got the tickets, it was a train cum bus journey to Hanko. After again stuffing (at home it was just liquid stuffing) myself with some sandwich from the shop, we were headed towards Hanko, An hour later got down at Karjaa. Karjaa was our interim point where we caught the local bus to Hanko and after another 1 hour we alighted at Hanko railway station. With the journey not complete we caught a taxi to the local Hanko airport, and finally 15 mins later at close to 15:30 hours - as usual late - we were at the base.

We meet up with the already very excited tandem dive master, and the moment he saw us he asked us to get ready as soon as possible, as the next sortie was coming up. Me and Saravanan got ready and all dressed up in the dive suit. He went through the basic drills about the various signs during free fall and we both nodded our head just waiting to get into the plane. 10 mins after getting suited, i meet up with the dive master - “Maukka” with whom would be jumping. We exchanged pleasantries and had a brief ice breaking session going on. By the end of the chat, we realized that the rest of the troupe has already got into the car to reach the plane, so Maukka hurried up and got suited and we hopped on to the car and were next to the plane in no time. Here he introduced me to the Yuhis who was going to video the jump, we introduced ourselves and had a chat about fear of heights and nerves just before getting into the plane.

And then we are informed that we could board the plane. in 5 mins all were squeezed into the plane and the pilot gave a thumbs up and taxied across the runaway to start the climb.

5 4 3 2 1 and the pilot pulled the lever and got us to speed, as we started to climb through the sky.

Few minutes into the flight, i was adjusting to the pressure changes and found out that most sky diver themselves were sensitive to the pressure changes. As all were busy getting used to the pressure in their own specific manners. I glanced at the alti-meter to see the height we had reached and it was 2000 meters in 5 or so, odd minutes. At this time the back door was opened for the hardcore junkies - those who cant wait few more minutes to jump from 4000m height - to start the jump. Within half a minute we were 5 people short. At this moment Yuhis was capturing me and the people around me, as Maukka clipped himself to me and did the safety check and after a thumbs up we are ready for the fall.

Saravanan and another lady (doing her tandem also) headed towards the exit and took their respective jumps and vanished away from my sight. I saw Yuhis had headed towards the exit and was dangling outside the plane and waiting for me and Maukka to reach the exit. We headed towards the exit and i arched my body on the edge of the plane - at this point i had already “freed my mind”.

Rest in the post “I know why the birds sing!!”.

Which i am sure will take some time to get published. :-)
