comedy of errors
16:30 close of check-in counter
16:45 boarding time
17:00 boarding time
6 out of the 8 are in the flight, awaiting the roller coaster trip through a sizable section of europe. outside, at the check-in counter where there is no one, 1 desperately tries to get in cos, the immigration check itself has not been completed for a majority of the people boarding the Budapest flight. over booking, alternative airlines and factors only helping in not letting go. the better half had come along with us, most of us keeping in contact with the other half and comforting her to join us along, thinking there would be a way.
hope and wishes are always unpredictable and in this case there was no exceptions, after a uneventful and boring flight, we took the 2 rented cars, after finishing formalities and then moved onto wait in the parking lot. after some time, we were to leave the better half at the airport for the flight back in the morning. so with a accommodation booked, and an extra car, we returned the keys and held onto just one - the Saab 93. a couple of shuttle services and after some joking around we hit the bed, the plans were being reworked and priorities set straight. for the next morning would bring with it 4 hectic days to come, with the paths and plans changing like the river water upstream.
confused and helped by the route guide (the gps system) first we reached the wrong corner of the city, as the unsuspecting tourists, we were under the impression some park in that corner of the city was the heroes square. 40 minutes later, we were in the right heroes square. we just roamed around the heroes square, which had its share of other important tourist places around it. as hunger took us to the nearest burger king, we decided the next stop was Vienna, the rest of Budapest would have to wait for the us to return and see it.
Vienna, a quite little European capital, some how the atmosphere and the place impressed me a lot. and the fact that it was the Easter Friday helped in limiting the people and traffic. after a coffee, we headed to a near by water fountain we had seen before parking and then to the McD and then off to a theme park. our plan was to wile off some time in theme park before starting to Venice. But then since spring had not started the crowds were missing.
the next post, will be about cars, snow, alps and Italy.
